Metallurgical coal,
essential for steel production

Metallurgical coal, also known as coking coal is used to produce coke, the primary source of carbon used in steelmaking. Metallurgical coal differs from thermal coal, which is used for energy and heating by its carbon content and its caking ability. Global steel production is dependent on coal, approximately 74% of the steel produced today uses coal. Steel is used in a wide number of applications including construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, mining, and shipbuilding.

OUR APPROACH TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

From our earliest days of exploration in the Elk Valley, we committed to take an innovative approach to mining that makes a meaningful difference in the communities where we work. To meet this commitment, we hold ourselves to the highest standard of transparency and accountability in developing our project.  For more information about our commitment to sustainable development please download our pdf report.
